OfflineI saw ads for the Atari VCS 2600 and I wanted one. A trip with my mother to a Funkberater (now RedZac) store got me a… Soundic cart system with the Submarine cartridge and a MotoCross cartridge.
Funkberater also officially sold the Philips Videopac but I can't remember why I didn't get that one - maybe too expensive.
Didn't take long and next christmas I had an Atari VCS 2600 with Asteroids and Space Invaders cartridges which were totally new on the market back then on my wish list but my parents said no deal. I was already always home when my mother arrived from work and every day she rang the doorbell down below at the house entrance. And every day I opened the door and listened when she came up the stairs. One day I noticed her going down to the cellar first before she came up to the second floor. Next day first thing I did was going down the cellar, opening that old cupboard and there it was… a boxed first generation Atari VCS 2600 and my two cartridges along with it. Joy! 2 weeks prior to christmas I already discovered my present!
Later I bought Defender, Pitfall!, Cross Force, Xonox Ghost Manor/Spike's Peak, Spider Fighter, Vanguard, Moon Patrol and Ms Pac-Man. These were all games I bought for the 2600 back then.
Sweet memories!
Rauch mehr, dass da Huastn weggageht!
Well, most of my story is in the "Introduce yourself" thread already.
Just an addition here why my first system was a Philips Videopac. The answer is simple: The price!
Back then I usually got Christmas presents with a worth of 1000 to 1500 Schilling (~70 to 110 Euro) from my parents. When I badly wanted one of those fascinating video game systems for Christmas 1982, I knew I had only a chance with the cheapest of the popular systems. I cannot remember having seen any Pong cart systems in the stores back then, they had only the Philips G7000 for 2990 Schilling (~217 Euro), the Atari VCS for 3990 Schilling (~290 Euro) and the Mattel Intellivision for 4990 Schilling (~362 Euro), so I knew only those three.
To have ANY chance to get one I wrote the G7000 on my wish list and still was surprised as well as happy when I really found it under the christmas tree, along with cartridge #2. Seems my parents really noticed how badly I wanted a video game system, because they spent triple as much as usual that Christmas ![]()
Das taugt mir!
Aber mit wenig Ei bitte …

Well, I just wanted a video game system, no matter which one. Allthough I am happy that I didn't have Saba Videoplay or one of those Pong cartridge systems on my list
haha - the pong carts systems with the fantastic graphics on motorcycle or tank battle. i always think about those american boys that got a coleco combat pong for christmas (that huge green and very expensive monster)

and how long the must enjoyed it.
another good example is the atari sc-450 stunt cycle.

if you compare the saba with these 2 systems the saba stands for ultimate gaming fun for hours and hours...
