Ok, who did the best Atari 2600 covers back then? Atari, Activision or maybe Imagic? Post your favorites and the reasons why they are and take us back with your memories into the time when the big 8 Bit Consoles ruled the earth!

Thanks for posting again on this great forum, Reinhard!

My absolute favourite of my quite tiny Atari 2600 collection is this one:

Death Star Battle

I always loved the Parker artworks and especially this one as it depicts a great scene from the classic STAR WARS trilogy. In my opinion it has an official poster quality – just impressive. The logo looks also great.

Second to Parker I liked the Imagic artworks very much.

I lost a bet and therefore became moderator here, so I really have no choice…

At first, we just had the Atari games to buy and drool over and I remember being captured with outstanding covers like Asteroids, Space Invaders, Defender…

Later on, Austrian electronic chain Niedermayer became official sales partner of Activision and the first games arrived, and the covers, while not so realistic in detail also had their charm. But then I fell in love with Imagic and Spectravision artwork.

I remember that a friend's father (a truck driver), who drove often in Germany, brought Parker's  Return of the Jedi as a present for his son, as Parker games were not sold in Austria back then and it was a neat surprise for us youngsters – great cover artwork and great game.

To come to the point of my posting – I think I will have to decide between Atari or Imagic for having best artwork, but which one… Twink

It's a hard decision, but I think my vote goes to Imagic.

Always liked their covers. They have something of "C movies", the scenes look like cheaply made film tricks. But at the same time they have an artistic touch. Hard to explain, but almost each Imagic cover makes you look at it longer than you would look at the covers of most other companies.

It's impossible for me to pick my favorite Imagic cover, but I like especially those:

However, there might be covers of other companies that I also love, but in general my vote goes to Imagic.

One of my favourite is the Star Wars/ Battlestar Galactica looking Marauder box by Tigervision!

Actually I don't know this series but this has to be the best Blu-ray cover ever
